About the Experience

Minneriya National Park is world-famous for "The Gathering" — a spectacular event taking place during the dry season (May to October). As water sources dry up across the region, hundreds of wild Asian elephants migrate to the grassy banks of the ancient Minneriya tank. Built in the 3rd century AD by King Mahasen, this reservoir provides water and fresh shoots of grass, creating a wildlife spectacle ranked among the greatest in the world.

Minneriya is a birder’s paradise. Look out for large flocks of little cormorants, spot-billed pelicans, and painted storks, as well as terrestrial animals like wild boar, jackals, and mugger crocodiles.
